What is baptism...

In baptism, you as parents are: thanking God for his gift of life, deciding to start your child on the journey of faith and asking for the Church's support.

For your child, baptism: marks the start of a journey of faith, which involves turning away from the darkness of self-centredness, turning towards Christ and becoming a member of the local and worldwide Christian family.

Baptism is a 'sacrament': a visible sign of God's love. In baptism, we are thanking God for his gift of life and publicly acknowledging his love. We are acknowledging that we all need to turn away from the darkness of evil and to make a new start with God.

So you want to have your child baptised...

Everyone who lives in Spixworth, St. Faiths or Crostwick is allowed to have their children baptised in their Parish Church.

There is no charge; but we do leave a collection plate out at the end of the service for donations.

Parents and godparents should be baptised themselves. If you are not, we would be happy to talk with you about baptising you at the same service as your child.

Baptisms normally take place on the third Sunday of the month or they can be arranged for a separate time (usually 3pm on Sunday). We may ask you to share the occasion with one other family.

In the service, you promise that you will do what you can to bring your child up as a Christian, and we promise that we will make her/him welcome as part of the church.
